Joseph William Turner (1775-1851) is an English painting artist. Known as the "Artist of Light," this representative of Romanticism recreates sea paintings with soft, sinking colors and light effects. His later works preceded the painting of French Impressionism. It is distinguished by the use of watercolor technique, but with oil paint, which creates smoothness and effects of overflow.
The painting is devoted to Germanic Julius Caesar (a prominent Roman commander in the early Roman Empire, who received Germanic in 9 years in honor of his victories in Germany) and his wife, Agripina Stara, a granddaughter of Octavian Augustus gives birth to 9 children. The works of Germanic have long been known and recreated by all artists.
Turner reveals the tragic decline of Imperial Rome. Here he recreates the city in complicated details, though at that time Agrippina was in Brunnissium (Brindisi), not Rome. Agrippina and her children returned to Italy after the death of Germanic, carrying the urn with his ashes. On the way, they are met with generous demonstrations of sympathy and mourning. It is up to Germanic to receive posthumous honors, including raising many statues and arches in his honor. The painting was created in 1839.
The reproduction "Ancient Rome - Agrippina Landing with the Ashes of Germanicus" is a high-quality eco-ink print on an Italian canvas. The canvas is covered up to 30x40 cm on a solid back. If larger than this size is stretched on the subframe. Whatever size you choose, you will always get it arranged in a suitable frame (as in the picture).
