Born in Paris, Manet has a remarkable background and educated parents, but with all his respect for them, he has stubbornly resisted his desire to make a career as a lawyer. Between 1850 and 1856, after not accepting him in the army, Manet studied at the painter Thomas Couture. He spent 6 years studying the laws of composition and painting. In his free time he copied the sails of the old masters in the Louvre.
