"Te Rerioa" was painted in 1897 during Gauguin's second stay in Tahiti. It shows how two women look over a sleeping child in a room decorated with elaborate wooden reliefs. They enhance the sense of mystery. Gauguin has purposely left them obscure and nebulous.
He writes: "Everything in this canvas is a dream: Is it a child ?, Is it a mother ?, Is that a rider on the road? Or is it my dream !!!" He writes the Tahitian word for "dream" at the bottom of the picture, but writes it wrong: it must be "rereioa".
The reproduction "Te Rerioa" is a high-quality print that is cushioned on a solid back to a size of 30x40, above which the canvas is stretched on a subframe. Arranged with an appropriate frame, reproduction can be the perfect gift for a close person or complement to your home.
